Inspired by the author's family history, this multigenerational saga follows two Black families from the post-Civil War South to New Jersey during the Great Migration. The narrative explores eight decades of intertwined fates, examining how intergenerational trauma and systemic challenges shape the lives of nine different characters. It blends historical record with fiction to depict the search for a promised land that remains elusive.
