John-Calum Macleod returns to the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides after art school to live with his father, a sheep farmer and lay preacher, and his grandmother. He struggles to reconcile his own identity and desires with his father's traditional expectations and religious convictions. As the seasons change on the island, Cal discovers that both he and his family are keeping secrets that threaten to change their community.
