The Offing

Following the Second World War, sixteen-year-old Robert Appleyard travels across the northern English countryside to escape his future as a coal miner. He forms an unlikely friendship with Dulcie Piper, an eccentric older woman living on the coast who introduces him to poetry and bohemian culture. Their summer together reveals secrets of Dulcie's past and reshapes Robert's perspective on his own future.
