Empire of the Sun

A young British boy named Jim is separated from his parents in Shanghai following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He struggles to survive alone in the occupied city before being interned in the Lunghua Civilian Assembly Centre for the remainder of World War II. The narrative is a semi-autobiographical account based on the author's own childhood experiences in China.
