The Psychic Life of Power

This work examines how the psyche is formed through the social operation of power and the paradoxical process of subjection. Butler integrates social theory, philosophy, and psychoanalysis to theorize how the individual becomes a subject while being subordinated. The analysis explores the internal mechanisms that conceal and fortify the power structures that produce the psyche.
